#59: Watch Dance Moms

I never saw it coming.  There I was, just going about my normal life, thinking everything was regular, not expecting a sudden revelation to hit me from out of nowhere.

And that’s when it happened–I discovered a reality show I didn’t like.

#58: Consider Cleveland

I could buy a 2-family house today.  It’s in an up-and-coming neighborhood.  It’s within walking distance of an ice cream store and a library (which is pretty much all I need to survive).  It’s down the block from Iron Chef Michael Symon’s restaurant, Lolita.  It’s on a street called Literary Road (I mean, come on, is there anything more adorable?).  Renting out one of the apartments to my brother or sister and shelling out a down payment I’d be completely comfortable with, I would be making a monthly payment that’s a fourth of the cost of renting a cheap studio in Manhattan.

The only catch: it’s in Cleveland. Read the rest of this entry »

#57: Cat on lap for 3 hours

Over the past few years, I’ve become increasingly worried about “wasting” time.  Funny, when you consider that sometimes there’s nothing I’d rather do than absolutely nothing, and often I’ll spend 20 minutes trying to get a singular piece of hair to go where I want it to (an ever-losing battle that I inexplicably keep choosing to fight). It’s not so much the small chunks of time here and there that I worry about.  It’s the bigger picture waste that causes me to panic and regularly reduces me to tears.  It’s the notion that I could be wasting the best years of my life, simply because I don’t yet have the ideal job or any kind of romantic relationship.  It’s the possibility that I’m letting my life pass me by and focusing on the “wrong” things, just because I look at other people my age (and younger) who appear to have it all figured out already. #56: Buy earplugs

“Better late than never.”  Is that true?  And if so, in which instances, specifically?

For discovering you forgot to bring your lunch?  Sure; at least then you can think of another way to procure food. For remembering to put on sunscreen?  Nope; once you’re burned to a crisp it doesn’t really make anything better to slather on the SPF.  For realizing how horrible a relationship was for you?  Maybe; only if you actually learn from your mistake and vow never to sacrifice your own potential for someone who doesn’t see it ever again.

#55: Sit in the shower

On the surface: grasping at straws for a new thing to do yesterday as a result of 4 days straight of being unable to stand due to sickness.  Below the surface: pretty much the exact same thing.

#54: Watch Grey’s Anatomy

The weird thing about me (yes, there are plenty, but the one relevant to this discussion, I mean) is that, while in some ways I’m decidedly non-girly–like how I don’t wear makeup, am almost 6′ tall, and have little to no patience for chick flicks–in one very big way, I am stereotypically girly–in that I am ridiculously emotional.

Over the past few months, my propensity to cry has somehow increased exponentially, so I decided to test out my growing girly factor by watching an episode of Grey’s Anatomy. Read the rest of this entry »

#53: Skip 5 meals in a row

Even when I had oral surgery during my senior year of high school and ended up with a non-stop bleeding hole in the roof of my mouth, I still managed to get a few meals down.  Food, for me, is one of the greatest things in life.  That’s a little sad, right?  But it’s true.  I’ll never understand those people for whom food is just a means to survive.  For me, it’s so much more than that.
