#273: Move back to New York

I know what you’re thinking: Wait, didn’t you already move back to New York?  I know this because I have been very closely following your blog (I’m one of your 3 readers–hi!) and seem to recall you moving back about 2.5 months ago…what gives?

Well, dedicated reader (hi!), you’re right, but consider that a soft launch, a beta version, if you will.  Now all my stuff is here as well, I have a regular year lease, and there are boxes in my apartment that may not fully be unpacked for months.  I’m established. Read the rest of this entry »

#272: Don’t fight the split

I don’t know if it’s because I never had much growing up or because I try to save as much as possible now, but I’m careful with my money.  You can call it stingy or cheap, but it’s not, really.  It’s just always being aware of how much I’m spending, unlike the many people in this city who can go out and buy food and drinks all night without paying attention to how much money they’re parting with.

So when I’m with a group, I hate the split–you know, the time at the end of the meal when someone proposes to split the check evenly, and everyone goes along with it because it’s too awkward to say anything. Read the rest of this entry »

#271: Consider Park Slope

Of all the places I’ve considered recently, this one is the most surprising to me.  You have to understand something about Park Slope.  It is what my boss calls “Sesame Street on crack.”  And she’s right.  (And she lives there.)  The corner convenience store displays breast pumps in the window.  The pet store has shelves full of pet Halloween costumes.  You can’t walk a block without having to maneuver around a stroller.  It is, truly, overrun by kids, dogs, and their owners.

So of course I wouldn’t belong. Read the rest of this entry »

#270: Own green pants

I’m going to be honest here (because I always am, and to be honest, I shouldn’t ever use the phrase “to be honest” because it’s completely unnecessary when it comes from me—I’m honest to a fault) and admit I may have had green pants when I was a baby or too young to pick out my own clothes.  But I didn’t technically own them, so technically, this little disclaimer is also completely unnecessary.

#269: Have an invisible foot

I’ve had an invisible body multiple times before, but this time it was just my foot.  People appeared to see me sitting on the seat in front of them on the subway.  They weren’t trying to sit on top of me.  They weren’t, for the most part, trying to shove me over (no more than usual, anyway).  I just had an invisible foot.

#268: Wear pajamas to work

Two clarifications necessary here: by “work,” I mean work in an office building, not working from home and not working as a lifeguard, because obviously I’ve worn pajamas to work in both of those situations.  By “pajamas,” I do not mean plaid flannel pants or a nightgown.  I mean a tank top.  Makes it a little less blog-worthy now, doesn’t it?

What if I told you it was the same tank top I had just slept in the night before? Read the rest of this entry »

#267: Brooklyn Book Festival

See, this is something I never would have stumbled upon if I had an iPhone–or any sense of direction.  Because my friend was late to meet me somewhere in Brooklyn and I didn’t know where I was going since I didn’t have internet access, I just started walking, and found the festival.
