There are few things in life (if any) as entirely satisfying as sitting outside for dinner and drinks in October.
There aren’t too many things better than sitting outside for dinner and drinks in any month, but in October, it’s even better. When October arrives, you don’t know for sure if you’ll have a chance to do it. You don’t know if the weather will cooperate–especially when last year in October it snowed. You can’t guarantee that even if the weather is nice enough to sit outside, it will happen on a day when you can fully relax because you don’t have to work the next day.
So even though the Boat Basin Cafe was nothing special in and of itself; even though I’ve been to better outdoor restaurants; even though I’ve been to better outdoor restaurants on the Hudson River; even though 8 blocks away there’s one with better food and waiters who don’t pressure you every 60 seconds to order (only because there aren’t any waiters at the other place, but still); even though it’s a touristy place that charges too much for its mediocre food–it was fantastic.
Of course, you could serve me bread pudding and I’d still probably tell you I had a great time, just because it was served while sitting outside in October. (But I’d recommend that you don’t. I really hate bread pudding.)
