#509: Naumburg orchestral concert

This is a fancy way of saying I saw an orchestra in Central Park yesterday.  I didn’t come up with the title, but I approve; it sounds fancy.

I also approve of the fact that the orchestra I saw–the Knights–didn’t care about dressing in matching outfits. All of the members just wore street clothes and it was refreshing to see them play in clothes that made them comfortable.

One more thing I approve of but don’t really understand is that there wasn’t a conductor.  How is this even possible?

You’re not supposed to judge a book by its cover.

#507: See a vintage carnival

The only time I really wish I lived in a different time period is when I think about how great it would be to always wear big frilly dresses and have little responsibility.  But then I remember 1.) I wouldn’t have been in the economic class that got to do that, and 2.) corsets.

So going to a vintage carnival completely satisfies my living-in-the-past urge. Read the rest of this entry »

#506: Participate in a 5K

“Participate” is a loose term in this case, since the event was set up so that it was almost impossible to actually run the entire 5K (too many people, too confusing of a course, in the dark).  Which was fine, since I hadn’t been running since before all of the heat waves.

In fact, it’s not something to be excited about at all, really, considering I sort of regret doing it.  I wasn’t planning on doing it either.  I had called the loan company after receiving a confusing update letter to ask how much I had left to pay.  The amount was depressingly high, but it was an amount I currently had in my bank account, so…I just decided to pay it off.

And now my bank account looks sad. Read the rest of this entry »

#504: The Art Studio NY

The point is, you go to this art studio, drink wine, copy a painting, and come away with a decent replica of a popular piece of art.

“So, I see you chose purples instead of red,” the instructor said at first.

“Yep,” I said.

10 minutes later: “Do you need any help?”

“Nope.”

15 minutes later: “Oh…uh…um…I like that color right there.” Read the rest of this entry »

#503: Join yelp

It was only a matter of time, right?  I love food.  I love writing.  I love wasting time on food and writing.

Turns out it was a matter of a long time, since I’ve been thinking about joining yelp for years.
