#697: Go to Spa Castle

Spa Castle has weird rules.  I knew this going into the experience because for years I had stalked the yelp reviews.

Mostly the rules people complained about included nakedness and barefootedness.

The nakedness wasn’t an issue because it was only enforced in a certain spa area, which my friend refused to even look at, let alone consider going into.  But the barefootedness was harder to get around. Read the rest of this entry »

#696: Buy fresh pasta

Everyone says there’s a huge difference when you have freshly made pasta vs. the store-bought kind. Everyone may be right, but apparently my taste buds aren’t that discerning when it comes to one of my favorite carbs (don’t make me actually choose a favorite, please–you will be here all day waiting for me to try).

#695: Be a guest speaker

So, okay: I am a decent public speaker when I’m prepared.  But put me in front of a room of people, ask me my middle name, and I’ll probably give you a convoluted, 3-minute response that might, if you’re lucky, conclude with the answer to your question.  In other words, I can’t think on my feet.

#694: Go to Bear Mountain

As we were about to enter the bar for a birthday party, my friend said, “Tonight could be the night you meet the guy you’re going to marry.”

#693: Watch The Fault in Our Stars

“If I were to die right now, I would die happy.”

I was at a bar watching a play that was a cross between Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya, the Cards Against Humanity game, and the “You got iced” frat boy drinking game–as, you know, is typical for a weekday night–and one of the characters asked the audience whether we agreed with that statement.  Or, rather, said to drink if it was true for us.

And I didn’t know whether to drink.

#692: CityMD

I still don’t understand how this is possible:

  • I needed to see a doctor–not urgently, but also not worth taking time away from work to sit in a waiting room for 2 hours
  • I checked in online to CityMD, NYC’s relatively new (within the past 5 years or so) urgent care system
  • I checked in at the location 10 blocks from my office, just before 5pm
  • There was one person ahead of me
  • I waited 5 minutes to see a doctor
  • I waited 5 minutes to pay my co-pay after seeing the doctor (at which point they apologized “for the wait”)

#691: Hold On to Your Butts

Do you still need more reasons why I couldn’t stay away from NYC for good?  Fine, here’s another one.
