#824: Watch American Horror Story

I’m sort of a baby when it comes to scary things.  It’s not that I’m a wimp in any way–I can handle watching scary movies or reading scary stories.  The trouble starts later, once I’m alone with my imagination; that’s when things get carried away, and fast.

Which is why I’ve refrained from watching this show even though I’ve wanted to for years.  I just knew if I watched it alone I’d be in trouble. Read the rest of this entry »

#823: Win Cranium

Full disclosure: I’ve only ever played Cranium once before.  Fuller disclosure: Cranium is really difficult.

Or maybe it’s just that we were playing the UK version.  No, it’s just plain difficult–mostly because of how much it relies on luck.

#822: Tryon Public House

Without fail, when given the option, I will order the grilled sandwich with the crust that practically punctures the roof of my mouth, making it sore for days.

I never remember this unpleasant aspect of grilled sandwiches until it’s too late–until the plate of food has arrived on the table, and the sandwich appears so delectable there’s no way I could just choose not to eat it. Read the rest of this entry »

#820: Go to an NFL game

I thought I’d been to a Browns game at some point while growing up, but no one else in my family did, so it must have been some sort of dream–or more accurately, a nightmare, since I hated sports when I was a kid.

We basically did everything wrong: Read the rest of this entry »

#819: City Reliquary

I’ve passed by this small storefront countless times on my walk from the G train in Williamsburg, and it always piqued my interest, but I was always on my way to somewhere else so I never stopped by.

When I heard they had a current exhibit of record album covers commemorating the Twin Towers, and it was September 11th, and I had to be in Brooklyn for a show and birthday party later that night anyway, I figured it was the perfect time to go.

Which it would have been, had it not been the one day they happened to decide to close early.  It was just after 5:30 when I arrived and found the owner halfway out the door. Read the rest of this entry »
