#836: Read The Yellow Wallpaper

29 Oct

When a character on American Horror Story mentioned this short story, I thought she referred to how the main character’s husband was trying to make her think she was going crazy, something a la Gaslight.  I’m either misremembering, or misinterpreting the story, because what I got from it was that the main character actually was going crazy.

Not that her husband didn’t play a role in the journey to get there.  Not that it’s necessarily worse to be crazy than bored (which is what she was before she went to nutso land).  Unreliable narrators are just that; we’ll never really know what was truly happening.

I say “truly” as if I think the story is real.  Maybe I’m the one going crazy.  Maybe we all are.
