As annoying as the child-like voice as the book’s narration may have become after the first paragraph, after having seen the movie adaption of Room, I will admit I missed seeing the situations solely from the child’s perspective.
I guess technically we still only saw whatever the 5-year-old saw, but without the inner dialogue explaining what exactly he understood at any given point, I thought it probably lost something in the translation.
However, my viewing companion, having not read the book first, said he understood what was intended throughout. So maybe it’s a result of my less advanced movie-watching skills.
Or maybe I just have a hard time imagining a movie can ever be as moving as the book.
