#827: Go to a medieval festival

Nothing at the medieval festival really surprised me–it was all your typical jewelry, turkey legs, people in Batman costumes.  Then I saw the falconry demonstration.

The falconer did a big introduction during which he offended people and yelled at people and also repeatedly said it’s possible the falcon would fly away instead of swooping down to get the lure he was swinging over his head.  I thought he was saying that to make it seem even more amazing when the bird came back. You know how sometimes you will hear about an event, really want to go to it but for some reason never do, and then when you finally get the chance to experience it you realize it could never possibly live up to the anticipation you’ve been feeding for years?

#267: Brooklyn Book Festival

See, this is something I never would have stumbled upon if I had an iPhone–or any sense of direction.  Because my friend was late to meet me somewhere in Brooklyn and I didn’t know where I was going since I didn’t have internet access, I just started walking, and found the festival.
